Chicago

Honestly I don't know the first thing about what it's like to live in Chicago and how the city influences it's bands; I've only visited. They all sound so different to me. Is it something about the beautiful, pristine "City In A Garden" being juxtaposed with neglected outskirts? Why doesn't it feel like these bands borrowed much from the legendary blues tradition of Chicago? Does anyone there now still sound like the Smashing Pumpkins? Someone school me. What I do know is that bands from Chicago don't deserve a quick detour; more like an obsessive deep-dive.

(I'll spare you the endless dissertation on Michael Jackson, who's from Gary, IN, that my friends can't escape from).

I'll follow anything Adam and Christian do after Gypsyblood; this is their new band. It still has the lo-fi nasty gravely guitar work and buried vocals, but is less breezy and ephemeral than Gypsyblood. I'm here for it.
