The wide acceptance and casual attitude towards hitchhiking in Alaska is a metaphor for why I love this state. It took multiple drivers to get us to Seward (including a fisherman, a college professor, and a fugitive), but only one to get us back to Anchorage (a man who’d take us on a full impromptu sightseeing tour).
